Dr. Jason But - Teaching Portfolio

Thoughts and Ideas

This page hosts some documentation and/or papers that I have produced as an aside to my Teaching career. Some of these documents were created purely as part of my participation in the Graduate Certificate of Teaching and Learning while others have been prompted by other aspects of my teaching

Assessment Issues

Assessment was covered in LTS503 within the Graduate Certificate of Teaching and Learning. Some of the outcomes of this Unit are available here

Designing a real-world assessment task

Description: While a required assessment component for LTS503, this report focusses on the assignment component of HET306 and was written after the first semester that this Unit was run. Following the first run, I have decided to change the assignment component to try to introduce a more real-world challenge to students. This report highlights the plan and assessment criteria for this assignment in the future

Designing Assessment Methods

Observed Teaching Sessions

Completing LTS501 within the Graduate Certificate of Teaching and Learning involved observed teaching sessions

Observed Teaching Session 1

Description: The first observed teaching session was for a lecture in HET306 - Unix for Telecommunications, presented on (Monday 14th August 2006). No detailed session plan was required

Observed Teaching Session 2

Description: The second observed teaching session was also for a lecture in HET306 - Unix for Telecommunications, presented on (Monday 16th October 2006). In this case it was necessary to provide a session plan in advance

Reflections on the Observed Teaching Session

Observed Teaching Session 3

Description: The third observed teaching session was for a tutorial conducted in HET306 - Unix for Telecommunications, presented on (Thursdday 4th October 2007). The main aim was to try to integrate some advanced media usage into the tutorial seamlessly and to migrate away from the traditional tutorial method. Another goal was to try an increase student participation in the tutorial.
