RULE is a system developed at
Swinburne University to teach our Telecommunications students Unix based
systems. It allows students to be allocated a number of virtual computers
for the duration of the semester that can be used to install and create
network services.
The existing RULE system is dated, beyond waranty and was't designed to
cater for the ~100 students per semester that are now using RULE. The aim
is to update RULE to the latest FreeBSD Unix releases, and to replicate the
RULE hardware with server class hardware that is:
- Under warranty
- Can cope with a larger number of virtual hosts and students
- Is backed up
