Evaluating the performance of SCTP as the underlying protocol for POP3
Project Ran: | S2 2008 |
Description: | |
SCTP is a transport layer protocol that has some features of both TCP and UDP
as well as a number of unique features including messaging and multiple streams
within a single association. This project will investigate modifications of the
POP3 email protocol to run over SCTP rather than TCP and report on any potential
improvements in performance
Undergraduate Project Supervision
Our Undergraduate students are required to complete a year long pair of Units
(HET550
and HET556
- Design and Development Projects 1 and 2). Students (may) form into groups to
work on a capstone type project that brings together their knowledge and experience
to demonstrate their ability in systems design. This page lists the student projects
I have supervised while at Swinburne.
Testing of a NAT Implementation to Support SCTP
Project Ran: | 2008 |
Description: | |
Undertaken as part of the SONATA
project. This project involves designing a series of tests to verify the
design, functionality, scalability and performance of the NAT implementation
being developed as part of the SONATA project
Title currently undecided
Project Ran: | 2008 |
Description: | |
This project looks at issues of running clustered operating systems over
more typical Internet links rather than their traditional implementation
involving the use of a dedicated network
WEIRD - Linux Wireless Clock Radio
Project Ran: | 2007 |

Develop an embedded wireless clock radio that is able to:
- Use no hard disk
- Minimal power requirements
- Connect wirelessly to a home computer network
- Automatically retrieve the current time from the Internet
- Stream Internet radio stations
- Allow web-based configuration of alarms and wake-up music
Real Time IP Classification via Machine Learning
Project Ran: | 2007 |
Description: | |
An offshoot of the ANGEL
project. This is a research based student project investigating the viability
of different Machine Learning techniques that can be applied to detecting
different types of network traffic, particularly focussing on game traffic.
Internet Home Security System
Project Ran: | 2006 |
Description: | |
A home based security system which uses a webcam installed on a home PC/server.
The software will record footage from the camera and trigger an alarm when
motion is detected. Users can login and view video and/or alarm status from
anywhere on the Internet.
